Every morning I wake up to the smell of fresh breakfast. The aroma from the bacon floats from the kitchen, up the stairs, and into my brain. In my dreams my parents are waiting for me to come join them in the kitchen. However, when I wake up my dreams are quickly forgotten. I force myself to put my sadness aside and get out of bed.

As I walk down the stairs, my body gets chills from the silence that the house holds. When I get closer to the kitchen I can hear Alice humming from the laundry room. Alice is my "Nanny" who my father hired while he's away so I don't get lonely. Her humming stops when I enter the kitchen. She could hear my cold feet slapping the floor hopelessly. Alice comes into the kitchen and greats me with a warm hug, "Goodmorning! Happy 12th Birthday!". She looks at me with a perfect smile but I reply with a cruddy, "Thank you", then look back down at the floor. I was hoping she wouldn't mention my birthday but why wouldn't she? She is payed to make me happy. I hate my birthday. It is just a horrible reminder that exactly 6 years ago, my mommy was killed because of my father and his enemies. Alice went to the fridge and took out a huge chocolate cake, my favorite. She set it on the countertop and then went to the cupboard and took out 12 candles. Litting them all, I thought of what I should wish for but I stopped before my mind even had a chance to begin to rotate through all the things I wish were different in my life. All I want is to have a normal life that a 12 year old boy should have. I know that is too much that any boy could wish for on just a silly birthday cake candle. "Make a wish", Alice told me in a cheerful voice.

"I wish my father wasn't an assassin", I mummbled as a tear ran down my lonely face.
